How to Follow Up After an Interview in 2022?

Generally, after you give an interview, you will hear back from a recruiter within 7-10 days.

However, the hiring process and time for every company might be different and it is recommended that if you don’t hear back from the recruiter within 10 days after you send them a thank you letter, it’s time to send a follow-up email.

The structure of a follow-up letter is similar to a thank you letter and you must keep it extremely short and to the point.

Begin with a personalized salutation and start your letter by stating that you’re writing to follow up with the interview process. Mention the job title of the role you're following up about and the date you interviewed to refresh their memory

“I’m following up to see if you have any status updates regarding the position that I interviewed for on .”

Followed by this, confirm that you're still interested in the position and that you are eager to hear about the next steps. And finally, ask for an update and end with a simple salutation, your full name, and your phone number.

“I’m excited to hear about the next steps, as I believe that I’m a great fit for the role, given my skills and expertise in the field. Any updates you can share would be great.”

Thank you,
XYZ

This way you must keep the follow-up letter short and to the point. Recruiters will usually provide a response within 2-3 working days. However, in certain cases where you don’t hear from the recruiter, you can send another follow-up letter after at least 2 weeks.

Here’s what your 2nd follow-up letter can say:

Dear Mr. XYZ,

Since I didn’t receive a response to my previous follow-up email, I wanted to check back to see how the interview process is moving on your end.

Are there any updates you can share regarding the interview that I gave on for the position?
I’m still interested in the opportunity, and I look forward to hearing from you when you have any news to share.”

Thank you for your time,
XYZ

Remember not to follow up more than 2 times and ensure to wait at least 2-3 weeks before sending a 2nd follow-up letter.

Studies show that the average time to hire in 2022 is 44 days. Thus, you need to be patient with the process and not lose hope when you hear back late from the recruiters.
